Off-Grid Power Solution for a Senegal Household: Load Analysis and Recommended Configuration
This proposal responds to a specific customer requirement from Senegal covering lighting, entertainment, cooling, a large freezer, a kettle and a well pump. It first breaks the requirement down into a load estimate, then maps it to real DRIVELONG products, and finally lists what we still need from you to finalise the configuration.
1. Your Requirement, Item by Item
We have kept your original list exactly as received, in French, and translated each item for the analysis below.
| Original requirement (FR) | Item | Qty |
|---|---|---|
| 10 ampoules de 12W | 12W LED bulbs | 10 |
| 2 televisieurs ecran plat de 40" | 40-inch flat-screen TVs | 2 |
| 4 ventilateurs | Fans | 4 |
| un frigo | Refrigerator | 1 |
| un congelateur de 6000L | 6000 L freezer | 1 |
| une bouilloire electrique | Electric kettle | 1 |
| une pompe a eau pour le puit | Well water pump | 1 |
2. Load Analysis: How Much Power This Actually Needs
Two numbers decide the whole system: daily energy (watt-hours per day, Wh/day) and peak power (the highest instantaneous draw, in watts). Daily energy sizes the battery; peak power sizes the inverter.
The table below is an estimate based on typical consumption ranges for each appliance class. Only the 12W bulb rating and the 40-inch TV size come from your own list; the running watts and daily hours are planning assumptions, not measured values. They are shown so you can correct them with your real usage. Because the freezer and pump are the two largest and least certain loads, they are given as ranges rather than single figures.
| Item | Qty | Assumed running power | Assumed hours/day | Estimated Wh/day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 12W LED bulbs | 10 | 12 W each | 6 | 720 |
| 40-inch flat-screen TVs | 2 | 80 W each | 5 | 800 |
| Fans | 4 | 60 W each | 8 | 1,920 |
| Refrigerator | 1 | 150 W (duty-cycled) | 10 | 1,500 |
| 6000 L freezer | 1 | 800–1,500 W (assumption, commercial-class range) | 12 | 9,600–18,000 |
| Electric kettle | 1 | 1,500 W | 0.3 | 450 |
| Well water pump | 1 | 750–1,500 W (assumption) | 1.5 | 1,125–2,250 |
| Estimated total (low–high) | ≈ 16,100–25,600 Wh/day | |||
| With a 30% safety margin | ≈ 21,000–33,300 Wh/day | |||
Assumption The 6000 L freezer and the well pump dominate the estimate and are the two figures we cannot responsibly fix without your data. A 6000 L unit is a large commercial-class freezer; its real running power and duty cycle depend on the model, ambient temperature and how often it is opened. A well pump's running power depends on depth and flow rate, and its start-up surge can be several times its running power. The ranges above are planning placeholders only and must be replaced with the nameplate data before a final configuration is issued. We do not claim a specific unit can start these loads until that data is confirmed.
Peak power. Two different figures matter here, and they are not the same thing:
- Continuous simultaneous draw: if every appliance were running at the same moment, the sum of the running powers above would be roughly 3,300–4,800 W. In practice the refrigerator and freezer cycle on and off, so the sustained draw is usually lower.
- Momentary peak: when a compressor or pump starts, its inrush current can be several times its running power. This momentary peak — not the daily average and not the continuous sum — is what the inverter must be able to ride through.
This is why the inverter is sized on peak, not on the daily average.
3. Recommended Configurations
All configurations below use real DRIVELONG products from our published range. They are sized to the estimate above; final sizing depends on the confirmed load data in Section 5.
Option A — Single high-power station (recommended starting point)
EP6000iLS High-Power Mobile Power Station — 6000 VA rated / 12000 VA peak, 5376 Wh LiFePO4 battery, expandable to 172 kWh with up to 31 extra batteries, 90% charge in one hour, supports utility, solar and ATS generator charging.
- 6000 VA continuous output covers the household load comfortably; 12000 VA peak gives headroom for motor start-up.
- 5376 Wh covers part of the estimated daily energy, so it is best paired with solar or grid charging during the day.
- Stackable expansion lets you add capacity later without replacing the main unit.
Option B — Larger capacity for full-day autonomy
EP12000iL Flagship High-Power Mobile Power Station — 12000 VA rated / 24000 VA peak, 7680 Wh LiFePO4 battery, expandable to 372 kWh, 24 kW parallel output, fully charged in 70 minutes.
- Highest continuous and peak output in the range — the safest choice if the freezer and pump must run together with the rest of the load.
- 7680 Wh base capacity plus stackable expansion can be sized to cover a full day of the estimated consumption.
- Best suited where the freezer is a commercial unit and reliability is critical.
Option C — Compact station for the essential loads
BP3600 Portable Power Station — 3600 W rated / 7200 W peak, 3430 Wh LiFePO4, built-in 2400 W MPPT, built-in ATS for hybrid systems, UPS function with <10 ms transfer.
- A good fit if the freezer and pump are powered separately, or if you want to start with lighting, TVs, fans and the refrigerator only.
- Built-in MPPT makes it straightforward to add solar panels.
- Smaller capacity than Options A and B; capacity can be expanded with additional batteries.
Solar charging
To reduce dependence on the grid, any of the above can be charged from DRIVELONG solar panels. Our published range includes foldable panels from 30 W to 600 W (DSF series) and flexible panels from 100 W to 300 W (DS series). The right array size depends on your daily energy target and local sun hours in Senegal, which we can calculate once the load is confirmed.
4. Why This Configuration
- Peak-first sizing. The freezer, refrigerator and pump are motor loads. Sizing on peak power rather than average avoids nuisance shutdowns when a compressor or pump starts.
- LiFePO4 chemistry. All three recommended units use LiFePO4 cells. The BP3600 battery is rated for 5000 cycles to 80% capacity, and the BP1000 in the same range is rated for 8000 cycles; cycle life for a specific model is stated in its product specification.
- Expandable, not disposable. Stackable battery expansion means the system can grow with your needs instead of being replaced.
- Multiple charging paths. Utility, solar and ATS generator charging give you options in a market where grid supply can be intermittent.
- Specifications from published product records. The product specifications quoted above (rated and peak power, battery capacity, expansion limits, charging methods) come from the published product records on our site. The load figures in Section 2 are planning assumptions and are labelled as such.
5. What We Need From You to Finalise the Configuration
To turn this estimate into a firm configuration, please confirm the following. These are the items we cannot responsibly assume:
- 6000 L freezer: nameplate rated power (W) and whether it is a chest or upright unit; the compressor start-up current if available.
- Well pump: rated power (W), whether it is a surface or submersible pump, well depth, and start-up current.
- Refrigerator: rated power and type.
- Kettle: rated power (typical units are 1,500–2,000 W).
- Daily usage hours for each appliance, and whether any loads must run simultaneously.
- Charging source: grid availability, planned solar array size, or both.
- Autonomy target: how many hours or days the system should run without recharging.
- Voltage and frequency at the installation site.
6. Sourcing and Delivery
DRIVELONG is a manufacturer based in Suzhou, China, with in-house R&D and OEM/ODM capability.
